Our History

Welcome To Our SIDO KANHU MISSION

Naren Hansda, who is the founder of the Sido Kanhu Mission, is also a well-renowned artist. He has received a lot of recognition nationally as a folk artist. His songs address social issues, environmental issues, and being from a Santhal community; his songs also tell people why it is necessary not to forget about their mother tongue. One of the main reasons his songs are loved so much is that his song is entertaining, and it also makes people aware of these problems. It all started around 2012; those days, Naren Hansda use to visit the nearby villages and sings about the latest social and environmental issues; in this way, he used to collect his daily income. Later that year, he came to know Lasuram Tudu, who is a renowned radio artist. Then Naren Hansda approached him and discussed his plan of opening a school where he will teach local kids. Understanding the motive behind Naren Hansda, Lasuram Tudu gave his land to him. Around the end of 2012, Naren Hansda started the Sido-Kanhu Mission. Still, it started with full force from 2014 with the help of Purulia Dharti Marshal Society with seven students only at the beginning.

Our Values

"Nature based inclusive, innovative, effective sustainable development model where integrity in diversity will be respected."

Motive Behind SIDO KANHU MISSION

As the mission of Sido-Kanhu Mission says, "To empower people through, economic, social intervention for making them realized to their inborn talent and encourage them to flourish their inner quality to lead life with dignity, special emphasis will be given to children and women including disadvantage groups." Sido-Kanhu Mission is not just a residential school; it has become a medium for these underprivileged children to know their inner selves and do something in life they are capable of. Sido-Kanhu Mission not only teaches books to these children, but it also shows them life values. One of the central values taught to them is the importance of mother nature in everyone's life. These children have their water bottle, in which they water plants. Practising this exercise through three years regularly every day, these children have turned a barren hill into a home of more than 5000 plants. These children also have a prayer that they chant every time before having a meal and before any gift they receive

This prayer roughly translates into thanking the god for providing them today's food and prays for helping them like this in the future. They have dedicated music classes on every Sunday. And every child is taught how to play traditional instruments and taught songs which describe the importance of mother tongue and not forgetting about our Santhal culture. Keeping an eye on the modern Santhal generation, where many children don't even know how to speak Santali, this Sido-Kanhu Mission helps them understand the importance of traditional culture in everyone's life. Also, Sido-Kanhu Mission is named after the heroes of Santhal revolution, which most of the people are unknown. Sido Murmu and Kanhu Murmu were the Santhal rebellion leaders, which was one of the first-ever battles ever took place for independent India. With all these values and such a different education system, one-day, Sido-Kanhu Mission will address the world platform and prove why our Santhal culture is one of the most scientific and logical cultures.
